UNDERSHERIFF RANK

The rank of Undersheriff signifies a CG-4 grade supervisor position.  This position acts as the Sheriff’s chief assistant in carrying out the functions of the Sheriff’s Office; assists in planning, organizing and directing the county’s law enforcement activities; assists in developing vision, goals, policies and procedures; supervises and coordinates the major Staff Offices and Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office; interprets policy to Staff Offices and Division leads and provides direction and coordination in administrative activities; evaluates present procedures, facilities and programs and makes appropriate recommendations for change; coordinates in correlation with the Staff 3 Office training programs; evaluates complaints from the public about personnel and directs investigations relating to those complaints; recommends appropriate disciplinary actions; coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and necessary proposals; meets with representatives of other agencies and the general public regarding law enforcement matters; assumes responsibility for Sheriff Operations in the absence of the Sheriff.  This position is authorized to be assigned additional duties as required and as appropriate to enhance the capabilities of the Sheriff's Office.
