SHERIFF RANK

The rank of Sheriff signifies the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the County of Howell and is a CG-5 supervisor position.  This position in accordance with RSMo 57.110 states the Sheriff is a conservator of the peace within his county, and shall cause all offenders against law, in his view, to enter into recognizance, with security, to keep the peace and to appear at the next term of the circuit court of the county, and to be committed to jail in case of failure to give the recognizance.  The Sheriff carry's out the functions of the Sheriff’s Office; planning, organizing and directing the county’s law enforcement activities; developing vision, goals, policies and procedures; supervises and coordinates the major Staff Offices and Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office; interprets policy to Staff Offices and Division leads and provides direction and coordination in administrative activities; evaluates present procedures, facilities and programs and with recommendations makes appropriate change; evaluates complaints from the public about personnel and directs investigations relating to those complaints; with recommendations issues appropriate disciplinary actions; coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and necessary proposals; meets with representatives of other agencies and the general public regarding law enforcement matters; assumes responsibility for Sheriff Operations.  Each star represents each major City in the County of Howell
